Cheering on our Olympic team

London 2012 Olympics
One of the privileged few to get tickets for an Olympic event, I was ecstatic to be cheering on the British equestrian team, and all the other horses and riders, in the cross country phase of the eventing at Greenwich Park .

With stunning views over London, beautiful fence, twists turns and steep slopes the designers have to be admired and the horses and riders respected and applauded for getting round in such spectacular style. To see my very amateur photos of the day and video clip of Zara Philips going through the water complex just visit our FaceBook page.

Nicola Wilson on Opposition Buzz was first of the team to go and they had an incredible round, clear well within the time. We gave an extra big cheer for Opposition Buzz as his sire is our very own Fleetwater Opposition. On the same note we also had to admire Lionel Guyon (FRA) riding Nemetis De Lalou, by Yarlands Summer Song another of Fleetwater Opposition’s sons.

The team finish the day in second position, but with things so tight at the top its is going to make for a nail biting show down in the show jumping!

The individual eventing medals are also tantalisingly close, so like many others my eyes will be glued to the BBC coverage this morning.

Winning Progeny at WEG

Opposition Buzz at the World Equestrian GamesOpposition Buzz, by Fleetwater Opposition, ridden by Nicola Wilson wins Team Gold Medal for the three day eventing competition at the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky. He finished in 15th place individually, with the 5th best score in both the cross country and show jumping phases. An ever enthusiastic Opposition Buzz went clear in the cross country phase, and inside the time which was proving difficult to do. They finished on their dressage score of 51.2 which was good enough for 15th place. Whilst Opposition Buzz is not one of our home bred horses (bred by Rosemary Search), here at Fleetwater we are immensely proud of Nicola and Opposition Buzz’s achievements. Hopefully Buzz’s excellent bloodlines will continue to support him in his increasing successful career. (photo from US Eventing)

Following in our tradition of naming our foals, using the first letter of the dams name, in this case a ‘V’, and fitting with the sires name as well as possible, the foal has been named Fleetwater Valmai, meaning ‘Mayflower’. More pictures can be seen on our our Facebook page

Fleetwater Verushka, or ‘Poppy’ as she was more commonly known, was an outstanding brood mare and lived her 35 years to full producing 11 live foals and nannying numerous generations after that (see a full list here).
